Have you noticed everyone’s enthusiasm for our annual conference? What’s truly amazing is that more than half of our tickets have been sold already even though the agenda is yet to published. Beyond dispute, diSummit has established itself as the perfect team event that offers valuable insights for managers and technical professionals alike.
In this newsletter you will find the announcement of our first 3 keynote speakers and a special Easter gift.
Happy Easter my friend, I hope to see you soon for the semi finals or at the Summit.
Philippe Van Impe
On June 26th the AI4Belgium & Data Science Community will hold their 5th annual Summit. You can expect a day packed with innovative ideas and discussions, lots of networking opportunities and perhaps most importantly a chance to have fun with professionals from a wide array of backgrounds.
Like last year our event will take place at the ULB in Brussels in building K. On the main stage we will have 45 esteemed speakers who will seek to inspire you and 6 other parallel tracks. We have also prepared 12 master classes on topics as diverse and critical as ethics, recruiting and architecture as well as 12 workshops for the more hands-on people .
Furthermore, the Job fair will be bigger and better than ever before! There will be a space for the regional AI-initiatives and like last year a partner village will be on the ground floor.
In addition to this, this year we are adding the AI Awards to reward the most interesting AI-projects and the most promising AI-startup.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our members for their input with regards to suggestions for speakers and trainers. This year, we had over 100 suggestions for speakers and 75 speakers filled in the speaker request form. The selected speakers are invited to record their promotion video on Tuesday or Thursday morning. In order to ensure the gender balance we could be forced to add some men.
All joking aside I am proud to announce our first 3 keynote speakers:
Stephen Brobst– CTO for Teradata Corporation. He was ranked in 2015 by ExecRank as the #4 CTO in the United States (behind the CTOs from Amazon.com, Tesla Motors, and Intel).
Luc Julia– co-creator of Siri and VP of Innovation at Samsung has just published a book titled “L’intelligence artificielle n’existe pas”, meaning “Artificial intelligence doesn’t exist”
Caroline Pauwels– Current Rector of the VUB, driving force of educational reforms in Belgium and organiser of the World Difference Day that focuses attention on freedom of speech and media.
Our Easter gift for you
As a happy Easter gift specially for you we have created a special combi ticket that includes t 100€ discount and the book in English or French from Luc Julia. This offer is valid until April 28th 2019.

Knowledge sharing is of paramount importance at our community event. Local experts will share their valuable experience and expertise in Master Classes for managers in more technical hands-on workshops. These sessions are limited to 60 participants so it is important to register beforehand. Additionally, we also have a series line up about ethics along with some workshops around spark and tensorflow. The full agenda will be released on our app.
Our call for interesting projects and inspiring start-ups resulted in a list of over 75 nominees. We are planning a semi final on May 16th at DigitYser to allow them to present their project and talk about their ambitions. Presentations will be recorded and used as supporting material for the people who are eager to vote them into the the plenary of the diSummit.
Currently we are undergoing discussions with one of our unicorns regarding the prize that the startup of the year should be rewarded with. Based on their input so far it will be something around access to expertise, coaching and also access to funds.
We have implemented a revolutionary event app in order to facilitate your networking and gather your input. It will be used for the voting of the AI-Awards. The App builds comprehensive profiles of attendees so you can view all attendee profiles before you even arrive at the event or conference. Plan in advance whom to meet at the event, what to talk about with each attendee, and reach out to others via in-app messages before, during, and after the event. You can also create casual meetups and arrange social activities with other groups of attendees. Whova revolutionises event networking and significantly improves the ROI of attending events.
For food we are partnering with Eatmosphere – a nonprofit organisation. On a weekly basis they recover 200 kg of fresh Food Surplus, and donate 80% to organisations that help People in Need. They use 20% themselves to create awareness about food waste by Tickling your Tastebuds.
The food we will serve is Practically Perfect in every sense of the word. We serve a zero-waste maximum taste food concept. Everything is Home and Heartmade, Artisanal and Plant Based. For example, we use recovered produce from local farmers, …

The #AI4Belgium and Datascience community have facilitated the nomination of some of the best #AI companies in Belgium. We are starting the recording of the video interviews this week in order to allow the community members to learn more about the projects that were delivered in the past few years. All members will be asked to vote.
What I find interesting in the #AI4Belgium Strategy is the call to create “ecosystem that facilitate more responsible data-sharing with reinforced open data policies, more collaborations & a platform with well-structured tools and approaches.”
